Wales generated 43% of its electricity through renewables in 2016.

That’s according to a new government report, which says this was up nearly a third from the previous year.

The number of renewable projects across the country has swelled in recent times, soaring up almost a fifth from 2014 to more than 67,000 clean energy facilities now.

There are 62,420 projects of renewable energy projects in local ownership, generating 575MW, with solar making up 81% of the total installations.

Onshore wind accounts for the largest installed capacity of renewable technology, with a 54% increase seen since 2014.

Renewable heat capacity has experienced a massive 97% increase over the period.

Wales has a target to produce 70% of its electricity consumption from renewable energy by 2030 and at least 1GW of locally owned renewable capacity by the same time.
